30 Day Writing Challenge - Day 23
Day 23: Write a scene that ends with this sentence: Now I suggest you return to the hole you crawled out of before my anger gets the better of me.
Vanquishing a villain is never easy. But that’s what heroes do and since I’d signed up for the job, I couldn’t just sit around slacking off. I had to get up and face evil. I secured my cape, tightened my boots and surged into the air. The city spread out before me in a blanket of glittering lights. This is what I’d sworn to protect. This place, these people. They didn’t have anyone else.
A plume of smoke stained the sky and I aimed toward it, knowing that’s where I’d find the bad guy. Sure enough, he stood on the other side of the bridge he'd destroyed, a smug grin on his face.
I landed then walked toward him, my steps slow and measured. I didn’t want to spook him. Not until I knew who he was and what he wanted. “Who are you and what do you want?”
He rolled his eyes. “Is that the best you’ve got?”
I clenched my jaw. “Just tell me so we can get this over with. I have better things to do.”
“Do you?” He arched a brow. “I highly doubt that. Now. Where was I? Oh, yes. I am the Lord of Shadows and I have come for your king.”
“Well, you can’t have him. So …”
He hung his head and sighed. “I had hoped this wouldn’t end in violence but you’ve forced my hand.” He raised said hand and blue light shot from his palm.
I dodged to the side in time to avoid being evaporated. Or whatever that light did. Perhaps I’d underestimated him. Fine. So be it. I rallied my power and let the light shine from within. He blinked, jerked back a step. Good. He should run. “Now I suggest you return to the hole you crawled out of before my anger gets the better of me.”
